New Website - What next The specific workings and rules on the internet change all the time as i am sure you will start to understand as time goes by. You now have a brand new website which has content on and is ready for customers to view and get a good idea of what your services are. Having a website is not enough, it needs promotion which is not easy and takes time to see any real results. If you rented a shop just of the high street your first things to do is contact the local book directory and local papers in order to let people know you exist, the same thing needs to be applied to your website, as with a shop you need a budget. On the internet there are various ways in which to promote your website, you can go the route of `cost per click`. There are various websites out there where you pay to be at the top of that sites listing for a particular search term that applies to your business. Take google as an example, your ad would appear on the right hand side of the page and you would pay each time someone clicked on your link, yes, £££££££££. i`m going to talk about self promotion. As time goes by you will realise that Google is the king of the jungle for search engines and thats where you want to be found, the others like MSN and Yahoo are no where near as good and offer little traffic but it is important to be on there to. Google is very complex and i dont want to bog you down with to much info, but in simple it gets its infomation from other websites and the more that it finds links to your site the more important your site becomes and would ge given a placement in google. Google sends out little computer bots, these visit a web page and they follow every link throughout a site and all links that go out of it, and this continues endlessly. In my opinion there are 2 sites which google takes information from and ideally you need to be listed on these sites and they are yahoo directory and dmoz. With both of these sites you just navigate to the best category and submit your listing. Before you do submit your site enter your website address into the search bar of each site to make sure that you are not already listed. Yahoo Directory - You can use the fast track paid service and should your site be approved will listed within 7 days. This is a yearly subscription service although you can go the route of the free submission, but there is no guarentee of a listing. Dmoz - This is a free submission directory and can take up to 6 months to be listed, it is also run by volenteers and there are no guarentees you will be listed. Another advantage to being on these sites is that other websites out there on the internet use the infomation thats provided and place it on thier website hence increasing links that are pointing to yours. I doubt that the listing would signicicantly increase trafic but you may find that your websites position will improve in googles search listings. |
